Lean manufacturing is about the ‘no waste’ philosophy in managing the workplace and production processes. It does not matter regarding specific any company size. Whether it’s a large-complex corporation or a small group of enterpunership homemakers with a baking business, practical lean manufacturing methods values are  in its implementation and the discipline of those participating in it.

The success of lean manufacturing is determined by how companies implement and initiates ways to achieve maximum benefits from the resources available to them without having to spend too much extra resources in the process. Success can be achieved by the reduction  of un needed activities and the elimination of the wastes.

These wastes have been identified as:

·         transportation (the movement of goods more than what is minimally needed)

·         motion (employees working more than what are minimally required)

·         defects (the efforts linked with inspecting and fixing problems)

·         processing (conducting more work than what is actually needed)

·         overproduction (leading to wasteful stockpiles)

·         Inventory.

I want to say that you may need to clarify what the need is. Why are you asking the questions

If you are looking for training for personal/professional reasons, then I would suggest Villanova University. I have not participated in anything from them, but I was really considering their green belt program (online). Now, if your company has a six sigma philospy in place, then I would speak with your companies black belt(s) as they will certainly have some great feedback for you. I do not recall, but I think Capella University has something along these lines as well. There are a number of professional organizations out there that can also provide some high quality information, American Society for Quality comes to mind.
