The Sr. HR Mngr doesn't know what she is doing, lies all the time, spends the whole week looking at the same spreadsheet, doesn't give a damn about the employees, and basically is taking up space and a salary that should be given to someone who really needs a job.  I really want to smack her around a couple of times.

My supervisor is a bully and a control freak.   Management and co-workers are always tossing people "under the bus".  I think the bus goes around our building 5 times an hour!!  HR jobs are hard to come by around here.

Working for a team that does not work together...1/2 of the people do the work and the other half do the minimum....Being spoken down to for no reason at all and people who actually answer their cell phones during work hours in the next cube... sheish

Working in a heavily matrixed organization is getting really old really fast.  In my past life I was a decision maker and made things happen.  Today, I am a concensus builder which is not a "value add" propostion.  How many HR people does it take to screw in a light bulb anyhow?  I guess that depends on how large and how complex the organization is.  Is this any way to run a business?  Time will tell.

I hate my boss because she has an issue with me being pregnant!  When I came back she told me it was my fault I had the little brat!  Real professional from the VP of HR

I have a new VP who has very little experience in HR, but has an education.  The new person has no work ethic, comes in late, leaves early, takes long lunches, and has been out of the office more than in the office.  The management team of the division we support has no respect for the new VP and I spend a lot of valuable time listening to people complain about the new person.  Of course, none of them have the cojones to complain to someone who can/will do anything about it.  It's difficult to keep myself motivated and even harder to keep my staff motivated when such a negative example is being set by the top dog.  I'm looking for a new job.

how do you handle - when your boss can keep chatting and talking about all other employees, and just not do anything, nor be team player, cannot do their jobs nor allow you you to perform, and then work late nights submit reports and data you gave her, and prove she is teh smartest, thought had to tolerate - needed some canadian experience and had to work on my designation, but seems like time to look for another job - 4 years has been a long time...

Four years is a long time.  I think you show great forebearance in having tolerated such behaviour for so long.  I think that getting a new job is a great idea, and I'm sure that you'll do better with the new boss.  Goodness knows we hope you don't do worse!

My boss is a control freak and can't stand for anyone to steal her thunder by doing a good job on their own. She puts you down so she seems larger.

We are on a hiring freeze (so as a recruiter I have absolutely nothing to do), they've cut overtime (so I've lost $200 per month of income), they are laying people off, and I don't know what to do in this economy!!!

This is typical of bullies.  They don't have any self-worth, so they try to make others around them feel badly so that they can look better.  But you've done a good job, it has your name on it, and that can not be taken away.  As for how she tries to make you feel, maybe it'll help to remember that she can't make you feel badly about yourself unless you let her.  She needs your permission.  So, if she's putting you down, you don't have to take ownership of it.  You can just look at her calmly and then go right on doing what you do without any reaction whatsoever.  If she gets no reaction from you, you'll look better than her again....because you will be.

A Bully is a chicken sh** with power or position. Show no fear and they will back down. I hate the people that think they know more about HR than I do because they read one paragraph in the handbook.

Knowledge will show in the work done and relationships cultivated.  Anyone who bullies doesn't have a clue and doesn't want anyone else to know about it.  You're right, reading one paragraph does not an expert make.  The thing that I like about this place is that all of us are professional enough to admit that we don't know everything and that we're always learning.  HR is an ongoing learning experience, just like most things in life.  We also learn relationship power by learning not to sink to their level.  We're all human beings.  Some are just a little less secure than others.  We don't have to react to them or look down on them.  We keep our dignity by giving them theirs whether we think they deserve it or not.  It can be frustrating, but it makes us stronger, better people.

I hate my job today because of several reasons...one--I'm working on a big project that every time I think I'm done, the HRD thinks he needs to scrape over it with a fine tooth comb and find some grammatical error or something wrong with punctuation. I can't move forward with the rest of the project until his review is complete and I'm SICK of it. Two--I thought I loved HR. I have almost 10 years experience in HR, I have my master's in HR, and I have my PHR but I think I want to do something else with my life. I don't feel that I'm moving up the ladder fast enough and I feel my talents are being wasted. Three--My company has a hiring freeze right now and my work has sssslllllooooowwwwwweeeeddddddd down. I don't do very well with boredom. They keep trying to find projects--one of which was to clean out a closet--for me to do. I didn't go to school, work in HR for this long, etc. etc. to clean out a freakin' closet!!!!!
