Band of Horses

Posted 4 months ago Hi- I just joined the group and was trying to find previous posts but had no luck. I was hoping to get a sense of what type of discussions are carried on here. I think I'll just throw something out and see if anyone responds. Has anyone else heard of the group Band of Horses? My daughter sent me their first CD and I became an instant fan. They have two CD's out and I can't get enough. Hoping to hear from someone in the group. Blaine |

| Posted 4 months ago Howdy, I've not heard of Rogue Wave (I don't think, the name sounds kind of familiar) or Paul Weller. Thanks for the names. I'll be looking both of them up. I bought an mp3 player a year ago when the price finally dropped to 20 bucks for a half gig cheapie. Actually what I bought was 180 free downloads (spread out over a year) from a music site called eMusic and they threw in the player for free. Not one to waste money I was determined to get all my downloads. When I went to the site for the first time I found out they had no one I'd heard of in their library. Maybe a couple of live tunes on compilation LP's but it was slim pickins. I realized that I hadn't become a fan of anyone new for about 25 or 30 years! I seemed to have gotten stuck in some sort of music time warp where everything after 1975 didn't exist. But like I say I was determined to get my money's worth and began searching for music I liked. It turns out there's a ton of great stuff I never would have heard or heard about if I hadn't bought that player. I'm surprised I haven't heard of either of those artists. I thought I knew them all now! It's been a lot of fun listening to all these new artists. I hope we can find some common areas of musical taste and turn each other on to new music. Here's a couple of ones I've been into lately: Teenage Fanclub, Spoon and BOAT. Hope you enjoy. Thanks for the responses. Blaine |

| Posted 4 months ago I'm up to speed now on Rogue Wave and Paul Weller. Both excellent. I see myself becoming a devoted Rogue Wave fan. You're right. If you like BOH you'll probably like Rogue. Weller sounds good for those rainy days and when I've had my heart broken. Here's one more: Devotchka Happy listening, tulsab (Blaine) |

I have to agree! What type of music are these bands? Dana Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections. |

| Posted 2 months ago I knew I was totally out of touch when for a split moment, I was thinking of the Album Heavy Horses by Jethro Tull. If that isn't telling how far back my music goes..... We can go straight to Barnes and Noble on the internet and listen to any song of many CDs. So I will give a listen there. |

| Posted 2 months ago Band of Horses- AMAZING! Anyone going to Austin City Limits? |

| Posted 2 months ago kkirby- I hadn't heard about BoH and Austin City Limits. Are they making an appearance? I'd sure like to know when if you've got that info. Some day I hope to make it to Austin for either City Limits or their S by SW festival. kfitness- I know exactly what you mean. It seems like a lot of people (myself included) get stuck both musically and fashion-wise at about 30 years old. I finally got out of the rut of only listening to music from my younger days. Now if I can only move on from Dockers..... danamillan- I think most of the new music I've enjoyed listening to, including Band of Horses, is classified as Alternative or Alt Rock or sometimes as Independent (indie). There are so many classes listed in iTunes, Windows Media Player and most music sites it just confuses me. I'd call all of it lite rock. For anyone wanting to explore new ones (to me anyway, they may be groups that have been around a while) here are some groups I found: Eels, The Decemberists, Blessed Union of Souls, All American Rejects and The Clientelle. A great site, pandora.com, lets you configure your own radio stations by giving them the names of groups you like. It plays some of them and adds groups it thinks you'll like based on the ones you listed. I found that by loading a station up with 15 or so groups that it plays a lot more of the music of the listed groups and less new stuff. To download any of the songs you have to have special software like Orbit (although I think RealPlayer offers the same capability) that will grab it for you. It won't save it as the name of the song though. You have to do it manually. Make it a musical day, Blaine (tulsab) |
