I took my son and a couple of his buddies to his first concert the other day at Indy. Slipnot, Disturbed, Suicide Silence, Airbourne etc. were the bands there. I have to admit I didn't mind Disturbed. I grew up on Styx, Kiss, Rush and Neal Diamond~) Overall though that music is meant to be vulgar and does a pretty good job of it. I can't count how many times I heard the MF word screamed over the sound system. All the strange smells and dumbass people however are apparently eternal.

I guess it's just the same as when we were that age.  We listened to the music that was vile enough to shock our parents, and these days it's taking alot more to shock us.  Jimmy Hendrix sang some lyrics when he was really high at Woodstock that would have really fried your ears.  I agree with you, that MF word is really over-used these days.  It just doesn't seem to have a point.  Like gratuitous swearing.

I actually do not listen to these groups, but have to agree that the cursing in music these days is way too much. I like to enjoy songs and especially love songs that seem to come from the heart. I love Blue October though. They have some great songs!

Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections.

My son and I both listen to a ton of music - although I tend to lean toward classic rock and old country.  He grew up listening to my music and has added to that his own individual tastes. I'll never like songs that are filled with hate or overly aggressive - and I don't particularly care about swearing either.

There is a good chunk of his music that I don't really care to listen to, but if there is something he really likes - he asks me to listen and we talk about what is good and what is bad and what we each like or dislike.  It's funny that without these chats, there are a lot of new things that I wouldn't listen to.  I've found a few new bands and artists to get excited about.  So, I'm lucky that it is something that has brought us closer.  It is cool that you were able to go with him and his friend, Jackson.
