I've been reading The Pillars of the Earth.  WOW is all I can say.  Highly recommended to anyone who's looking for a great title.  But, I'm almost done and I'll be looking for another great book to dive into.  What are you reading?

I've just read the latest in the series by Louise Rennison, Stop in the Name of Pants!  Louise Rennison lives here in Brighton, and is from here.  She is writing a series on the diaries of Georgia Nicholson, a girl growing up in Brighton.  Her first book, which was called Angus, Thongs and Full-frontal Snogging, has just been made into a movie, but I don't know if it would measure up to the book.  They usually don't.  Her books are so funny that you have to have the tissues for the tears, and you have to stop for breath sometimes!  She had said that she wasn't going to write any more after the seventh one, but the outcry was too great, so she's written two more, and I'm thinking that she will surely write a tenth, so I'm waiting!

I am in the middle of two books but can't find the time to get back to them what with moving and all... they are "Flappers" an historic account of the 1920's, and  "Longitude" the history of how the problem of navigation on the high seas was solved by inventing the most accurate pocket watch in the world.  I don't always read historical stuff though, just a phase right now.

Gosh - I feel soooooooooooooo boring. Just finsihed The Next Level abut leadership coaching and now starting  a handbook on non-profit management and strategic leadership. Before the Next level I read the Dip - a awesome little book about strategic quitting.  I do read the cartoons when I can?

I have my moments but I do read at least 15 to 20 works of fiction each year. My taste is based on my mental state.  If I am mentally tired and just want to read without overtaxing my neurons, I will pick up my share of "chick lit".  When I am more energized or too stimulated mentally, I will pick up books like "The trouble with Islam today" by Irshad Manji.  In the last 45 days I read "The trouble with Islam today", "Bella" by Lisa Sampson, "Lollipop shoes" by Joanne Harris (remember "Chocolat"?)

For non fiction, I have my fair share of must-read for work and career.  The most recent book I read was "Snakes in Suits: When Psychopaths Go to Work" by Paul Babiak and Robert D. Hare. I highly recommend it.

I'm reading from a website in England http://www.management-issues.com/default.asp about managment issues.  I've just discovered it and it has some wonderful and short articles.  (I've posted a few in the "News" are at HRGuru.com.)

Earlier today, during a break, I was reading from Nationala Geographic's Adventure magazine an article entitled: "How to Survive Almost Anything).

I've been spending a little bit of time (unfortunately not much, been too busy and too ill) trying to find a place online to read about our management issues here in the UK.  Trust you, Todd, to find it for me!  Are you on top of it or what??  Well done, and thanks, I'll be going there!  But I'll leave you to do the posting.  I enjoy posting funny videos, though I did post one that was of a more serious nature.  I really should get more into posting articles, but have been looking for ones that apply to you Yanks, since that is where the site is from.  I had no idea you would be interested in anything from this side of the pond!  Oh, well, live and learn!

I only read news/industry things online.

If I'm reading for enjoyment it's a book and has nothing to do with my job!  That's how I relieve stress - I lose myself in whatever I'm reading and forget about the troubles of the day.  At least for a little while.

I agree, SaraB!  When it comes to wanting to relax and laugh, I pull out my Louise Rennison collection.  That will cure the most persistent blues!

I just finished 3 books this week - The Beachhouse by James Patterson, Diary from Suzanne to Nicholas by James Patterson and The last Summer of You and Me (I forget the author).

All were great-  sent them to my sister and have to go to buy more!

I'm always reading!  At present, it is mostly self-improvement books and craft books.  I do enjoy a juicy novel too!  Some of my favorite authors are Andrew Greeley, Danielle Steele, Nora Roberts, Fern Michaels and I'm sure I've forgotten some too.

I've started reading the Gurnsey Literary and Potatoe Peel Pie Society.  Have any of you heard of that book?  It's format is a bit different, set up as letters written to and from the main characters, but it's interesting.

I do so much reading for work that when I read, I read fanasty novels series such as the Hobbit.  I like to escape the real world and live in a nice fanasty ot good versus evil with dragons, Elves, and wizards.  I like it when there are several books in the series so my fanasty world can last longer. Raymond Feist, Terry Brooks and Tracy Hickman are some of my favorites.

Ok - you all have inspired me -

for professional reasons I am reading Primal Leadership, but for personal reasons a local business friend just wrote and opublished a book on surfing: called Aloha Surf Guide and so far a pretty easy read!

I am toggling between 3 non-fiction at present. I find my mind shuts down if I have to complete a non-fiction at one reading, hence I welcome the "breaks" by  switching among the books.

1) PHR/SPHR study guide by Bogardus

2) Hire With Your Head by Adler, 3rd edition

3) Essential Guide to Federal Employment Law by Guerin and DelPo

From a business angle, I am reading “The Whole Brain Business Book” by Ned Herrmann. For pleasure I’ll read all kinds of books, most are ‘mind candy’, just an easy read for enjoyment.
