Immigration and HR

Posted 2 months ago I have personally been exposed to the various immigration laws and have become quite literate in these laws and how to deal with situations that arise. Anyone in HR knows the close relationship that EEO laws and immigration laws can hold. I am hoping that this group will allow us all the opportunity to find out any necessary information regarding changing immigration laws that may affect us at any level, be it personal or professional. I have went through the immigration process to make my husband a Permanent Resident and will soon be assisting him through the Citizenship process. My best friend is also an immigration liaison. If I can help anyone at anytime, please let me know. Dana Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections. |

| Posted 2 months ago Dana I think this is a very interesting topic because I have a sister in law in Honduras who I am trying to help get a Tourist Visa through the US Embassy in Tegucigalpa to come visit us. Any advice or tips on helping her to get one? Thanks Chris L.

| Posted 2 months ago Dana, Thanks for starting this group. I was involved with the Visa process while at Cummins and I know it can take a lot of time and effort to get things done properly. For companies that do not have much experience with the process, it is best to hire a law firm that specializes in immigration. David Excellence can be attained if you ...

This is a fascinating and highly charge area of interest. There are several facets to watch including the effect of immigration on the labor market, ethics, and responsibility as a nation.

Thank you for your kind words and I hope that I can keep enough information here to keep everyone up to date on laws as they change and apply to our work. I get up dates and e-mails from the DHS so I should be able to notify the group within a few days of a new law going into effect. Dana Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. | Posted 2 months ago Immigration law is really important to us now because we are getting quite a few members who are interested in immigrating to the US and who have no idea where to turn to find out the legalities of living and working in the US. It's great that we can be kept up-to-date! |

I will do my best! I receive e-mails from Customs and Border Patrol, Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, and many other goernment offices. I would like to know what type of updates that you all would like to see posted here. For example, right now from FEMA, I am receiving updates on the states that are being declared due to Hurricanes and Tropical Storms. Would you all like to see those posted as well? I know that some of the topics are slightly off of the immigration path, but I could at least make a new topic to alert you all to the latest updates on the storms from FEMA or almost any other government branch. Just let me know what you want to know or see here and I will do my best to insure that it gets listed. Dana Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. | Posted 2 months ago Hi, Dana. I think it would be really helpful if we kept on topic on this thread and kept it to immigration law, but I know that there are quite a few people who would be grateful for the FEMA updates. Would you mind starting another topic and doing that? As far as what people have been asking regarding immigration law, many people want to know where to even start. I'm getting alot of questions about how to get a work visa and how to find jobs. It's possible to find jobs before one immigrates in some cases, and people really need the information that is going to help them know where to go to get through the process without hiring a lawyer (hopefully!). It's really fantastic that you can share these things! Thanks for your help. |

| Posted 2 months ago I will start a segment on applying for work visas, but there is too much information to do in one sitting. I have begun this process by posting the various work visas that immigration offers for workers. I will try to do a new post/topic as often as possible, but at least once a week. If I start getting behind you are all welcome to e-mail and yell at me! Sarah, I hope this will help you and anyone else who is curious about the process. | Posted 2 months ago Since I know more about British immigration, (naturally), this will be really educational, and I really do appreciate you doing this. A fresh topic wouldn't be a bad idea, to be honest, because otherwise the pages would go on forever, what with responses and questions. |

| Posted 2 months ago Maybe we can compare notes on the immigration systems of the US and Britain. I would like to know how similar or different the processes are. Dana Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections. |

| Posted about 1 month ago You know, I never thought of that. The thing is, immigration here is different because of the EU. If you live within the EU, there really isn't immigration, as such. You have the legal right to live and work in any of the member states, as long as you have the means to support yourself. If you need benefits, you'll be put on a government plane back to your home state. Work visas are therefore not required for members. Currently, for non-members, we don't have a points system as such, but it's been working it's way into a reality in order to curb the number of people moving in who have no real skills and are therefore a burden to the system. It can be a problem when immigrants come here with no permission to work yet, as they have to be on benefit whilst gaining that permission and leave to remain, which can be a lengthy process. However, don't think that their life is easy because they're on benefit. They're kept track of more than before due to too many of them disappearing and committing crimes....not saying that immigrants are criminals, just saying this is a problem. Because of the sharp eye being kept on them, there are appearance requirements, which is why so many are in the Croydon area, where the offices are. The money that they are given isn't exactly generous, and they usually reside in Bed and Breakfasts, which are actually homeless estates, and not what you would usually get from that word picture. There isn't usually a breakfast, and the life is very hard. It's best if someone comes here with a job already offered, visa in hand if they're from a non-member state, and with the means to get a place to live. I suppose in that way, it's very much like Canada, even though we don't yet have a points system and they do. There's more, and I will message you so that you can fit it in here how you like, since this is your group. You're doing a fantastic service to the global members of this site in preparing them for the realities of the matter! |

| Posted about 1 month ago I look forward to being able to compare some topics based on American vs. British Immigration laws. If anyone else would like to give us an idea on immigration policies from your country, please feel free to share them, but it would be a good idea to start it as a new topic so readers do not get confused over which laws are which. | Posted about 1 month ago dana, this is a very informative topic you have started and it will be a good idea to put all immigeration information at one place for benefit of all members. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Because of the complexities that we're dealing with, I feel that Dana has made a wise choice in keeping them seperate. It would get very complicated very quickly. I still have to provide her with the promised links that I have to UK and Commonwealth info. I just had my hands on that information yesterday, so I will be posting it to her ASAP. She's doing a cracking good job with this group, and her help is deeply appreciated! |
Anything related to this subject will begin with work visa as the first 2 words in the topic title.
