Does your college major matter? I'm an art history major right now and not sure how to make that translate into an HR skill set on my resume.

I am also looking into HR, so I can't fully advise you, but from what I understand, your writing skills matter the most in HR. You will be evaluating the resume and written work of applicants, and so to do that well you need to have high level writing skills as well. I actually think that Art History would be perfect as a major, doesn't it involve mostly writing paoers???

I would also recommend getting HR-related extra curicullar experience. I actually started in International Business (completed my degree), but discovered I liked HR after doing HR-related work for a local on-campus non-profit organization called AIESEC. I went back to school to do courses for a professional designation in HR, but most of my strengths were developed by volunteering and only later strengthened by courses once I knew what I needed to know.

As was mentioned in another response, writing skills are very important for HR.  If you later pursue a Master's Degree in Business or some related field, that would help with your HR career opportunities.
