Handling Clients who will not work harmoniously with the HR department they have hired

Posted 2 months ago I worked for a HR/Payroll company and we specialized in all aspects of HR for local companies. The clients would hire us to run the payroll of their companies, help recruit and drug test and do background checks, and we manged their benefit packages, and workers compensation. Time after time, it never seemed to fail, we would recommend a course of action and to our dismay, the client would decide to handle matters their way.. ie: a termination, or hiring a questionable candidate..etc.. and we would have to help them navigate the reprocussions....it was hard not to feel like their decision was a direct "slap in the face" to the years of experience and education that went into our company and the advice and expertise we tried to share..... |

Posted 2 months ago I know how you feel. But at the end of the day, it's their decision. If it were only themselves that were being affected by the repercussions, you could just shrug your shoulders and leave them to it. But you're having to help clean up the mess whilst holding your tongue from saying "I told you so!". In order to survive the stress, if you need the account, I would say that at least they're giving you some work to do, some job security. It's hard to do when you care so much about what you're doing and your standard is so high. But even within the office environment, we have to deal with people who don't hold the same standard and run rampant. Sheer survival depends on our developing a really thick skin so that we can just get on with the job at hand. What pride you can take in the fact that you're so very good at what you do that your decisions would've been the right one, you're so committed that you stick it out even when you would love to tell these people to get stuffed, and you're so good that you can clean up the mess when they've made one out of what you were trying to do! You can have some pride in yourselves. And if you don't need the account, you can always get rid of it if it's that bad. But everything you've said here makes me think highly of you and the firm that you work for. You know, you can always think to yourself "I told you so", and the fact of the matter is, they may be stubborn, but they aren't stupid. They know that you're right, they just refuse to listen. Never mind, you're better than this. Carry on.

Posted 2 months ago I have worked for companies as the HR person and I got the same treatment from my own management team. It simple, you do not take it personal. You do your job and make recommendations to whom you need to. what they do with that information is their decision. Kind of reminds me of my teenage kids

Posted 2 months ago Please post jobs in the jobs section of your profile or in the appropriate section of the site. You can ask General Manager if she has a spot where you can post anything in addition to these already available spots if you need to. Thanks.

Posted 2 months ago Document for purpose of CYA without a doubt. Consulting isn't what I do so I won't comment on that but in my Company if there is a chance that what is done is illegal and against your advice I would start a file with names, places, times, conversation etc. It's hard to argue with detailed specifics. Plus I can show due diligence to the BOD when they need somebody for a sacrificial lamb.
